our brokenness

  • All people were made by God and for God.

  • But all people were born with sin.

  • Because God is perfectly holy, God has to separate himself from sin.

  • Therefore, all people are born separated from God.

  • To live without God is to try and fill an impossible void in the heart.

  • But nobody can work their way back to God regardless of good deeds.

  • “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.“ (Romans 3:23 ESV)

God's justice

  • While God is love, His justice must deal with our sin.

  • To die without salvation through Christ has eternal consequences.

  • “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a ESV)

God's rescue

  • Jesus, the Son of God, is the Savior we need to bring us back to God.

  • On the cross, Jesus took upon himself the penalty for our sins.

  • Jesus lived the perfect life you never could and died the death you deserved.

  • He was raised from the dead and ascended back to heaven.

  • Jesus has satisfied all that God required for us to be saved and given new life.

  • “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b ESV)

our response

  • Once we understand our need for Jesus to forgive us and save us, we can respond by turning from our sin and asking Him to forgive us.

  • For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 ESV)

The Gospel

What is sin?
-Sin is what separates us from God.
-Sin hurts God's heart.
-God can't be around sin because He is Holy.
