Where are you resting?
Rest: Cessation of motion or action of any kind, and applicable to any body or being; as rest from labor; rest from mental exertion; rest of body or mind. A body is at rest when it ceases to move; the mind is at rest when it ceases to be disturbed or agitated; the sea is never at rest Hence
Hope: A desire of some good, accompanied with at least a slight expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable. hope differs from wish and desire in this, that it implies some expectation of obtaining the good desired, or the possibility of possessing it. hope therefore always gives pleasure or joy;
Let’s apply these definitions to the verse:
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” Psalms 62:5
Our mind, soul, body, spirit can be calm before the Lord. How often do we find ourselves with a million thoughts. (I do) it is in these moments when anxiety can strike (I’ve been there). Here we see we have a God who we can take 10 minutes with. Rest in Him and be freed because our hope is not in ourselves, our accomplishments or our failures. No our hope is in the cross. Take a second and ask the Lord to reveal where your hope truly is right now?
Remembering that no matter the circumstance or feeling God makes beauty from ashes and not a second goes waisted. He cares about our character and allows things to happen to sharpen us and make us more like Himself!
“Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.” Psalms 62:6-7
He doesn’t change. He’s the same yesterday today and forever. He saved us from eternal separation from Himself and also saves us everyday. The Gospel, the good news is that God saved us from finding our identity in the things of the world, in accomplishments, from needing the attention from guys. He is our rock that fills the depths of our hearts!
Our refuge, when everything around us is shaky when plans don’t go as we wrote up, when friends hurt us, life is unpredictable we have a refuge we can live in, that is Christ.
Often times we make our own plans set them in our hearts and then get mad at God when He doesn’t do something our way. This reveals the sin of control and lack of trust in God.
Rest knowing that He loves you. He’s for you. He allows things to happen to shape our character and gives us opportunity to go to Him and receive deeper soul rest in Him.
Take 10 minutes today to just sit and be with Him. Let your soul rest in Christ ❤️
